First, Gather Top Talents and Serve National Strategies. Relying on the SYSU Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study as an academic powerhouse and talent platform, the Branch actively connects computer science elites in Hong Kong, pooling wisdom to serve the development blueprint of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Innovation and Technology Hub.
Second, Connect Industry, Academia and Research to Empower Innovation. The Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study focuses on both fundamental breakthrough research and industrial translation, with in-depth collaborations established with PolyU, CUHK, etc., in interdisciplinary medical engineering and applied mathematics. The Branch will leverage this momentum to promote academic exchange, research collaboration, and tech transfer in cutting-edge fields such as AI, Big Data, Fintech, and Bioinformatics.
Third, Build a Vibrant Network and Promote Collaborative Growth. As an international metropolis, Hong Kong is a highland for computer science talents. The Branch is dedicated to creating an energetic community by organizing industry forums, career sharing sessions, enterprise visits, and social gatherings, strengthening bonds among alumni, the alma mater, and the Institute for Advanced Study.

Founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Sun Yat-sen University boasts over a century of academic heritage. It is a premier national university directly under the Ministry of Education, listed in the national "Double First-Class" initiative (and among the first batch of 985 and 211 universities), with one of the most comprehensive ranges of academic disciplines in China.
Since the founding of the Department of Computer Science in 1979, the development of computer science at Sun Yat-sen University has spanned nearly 46 years. 2024 marked the centenary of SYSU. As the university embarks on its new century journey and the School of Computer Science and Engineering celebrates its 10th anniversary, alumni in Hong Kong organized and reached out to fellow computer science graduates, planning the official establishment of the SYSU Computer Science Alumni Association Hong Kong Branch on October 25, 2025.
The establishment of the Hong Kong Branch comes at an opportune time with profound significance. In 2024, the Sun Yat-sen University Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study was officially inaugurated at the Hong Kong Science Park, becoming the first comprehensive research institute established by a mainland university in Hong Kong. This signifies SYSU's strategic integration into the development of Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology center, opening a new chapter of educational and research cooperation across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
